Distinguished positive regular representations

Let $G$ be a tamely ramified reductive $p$-adic‎ ‎group‎. ‎We study distinction of a class of irreducible admissible representations‎ ‎of $G$ by the group of fixed points $H$ of an involution‎ ‎of $G$‎. ‎The representations correspond to $G$-conjugacy classes of‎ ‎pairs $(T,phi)$‎, ‎where $T$ is a‎ ‎tamely ramified maximal torus of $G$ and $phi$ is a quasicharacter‎ ‎of $T$ whose restriction t...

Regular Gröbner Bases

In Ufnarovski (1989), the concept of automaton algebras is introduced. These are quotients of the non-commutative polynomial ring where the defining ideal allows some Gröbner basis with a regular set of leading words. However, nothing is reflected concerning the whole structure of the Gröbner basis (except of course for monomial algebras). In this paper we introduce the concept of regular Gröbn...

Diagrams for Positive Bases

The theory of positive bases is a useful tool in the study of convexity. In this paper we describe a representation of a positive basis of a finite-dimensional linear space, which is analogous to that of a poly tope by a Gale diagram (see [4, §5.4 and §6.3; 7, Chapter 3]). The basic idea is implicit in the work of Chandler Davis [2] but, as we now have the advantage of experience in the use of ...

Theory of regular M-band wavelet bases

Orthonormal M-band wavelet bases have been constructed and applied by several authors. This paper makes three main contributions. First, it generalizes the minimal length Kregular 2-band wavelets of Daubechies to the M-band case by deriving explicit formulas for K-regular M-band scaling filters. Several equivalent characterizations of K-regularity are given and their significance explained. Sec...

Positive Bases in Numerical Optimization

The theory of positive bases introduced by C. Davis in 1954 does not appear in most modern texts on linear algebra but has re-emerged in publications in optimization journals. In this paper some simple properties of this highly useful theory are highlighted and applied to both theoretical and practical aspects of the design and implementation of numerical algorithms for nonlinear optimization.
